Korean Calligraphy by Kyungbum Kim
This project was for the Korean Ministry in Los Angeles for their 30th anniversary book entitled Self-Portrait. Handbuilt came up with 9 poetic sentences that represent each department of the center and asked contemporary Korean calligrapher to create 9 emotional typography. For example, “mountain meets water” in Korean represents their outreach department. Throughout the book, the consistent circle graphic represents the changing of chapter. Close-ups of individuals are representing Korean culture in various media. The images of people from a still photos or motion pictures are capturing the moment of their performance.
